Senior Project, Spring 2009, AnnouncementsBFA Show meeting at 6 pm, Monday, March 6th in the PIT!! Required attendance!!
Hello Seniors! Welcome Back (Almost)! Or, Welcome to Prep!
As you can see by the image below, your well-being is totally on my mind! Along with my tumbling assets.
In this folder you'll find copies of the handouts we'll use. The first ones will be related to your papers- there are prompts that will help you get started and the format of the paper is included. Check back from time to time, as you'll find announcements, more handouts and other interesting things here along the way.
See you on the 26th!

It looks like this:
Don't buy the 11th Edition. Get the 12th. Also, you can find it used online and it is about $18 that way.
OK, DOCUMENTS!
Here is the first set of documents you'll need. I'm also working on a shared calendar so you can see important due dates easily. Included in these documents are:
- Prompts for Senior Project paper outline
- Cover sheet example for Senior Project paper
- Project Proposal form
- Project Calendar example
- First Steps document (really important!) Read this!
These documents are all online now- just click on the folder marked "Senior Project, Spring 2009" and you'll see them there. They are MSWord docs.
New Feature!!
Download the documents from the new Documents page !
These links are "hot" so you should just have to click 'em.
DUE DATES!
I'll see if the shared calendar works so you'll get to see due dates there, but, basically, we are going to do the following in the early going:
Week 1, January 26th: Individual meetings with Prof. d to establish project and direction (there will be a signup device and meetings will be in #108). For anyone doing comics- your script needs to be finished and you should be into some character development.
Week 2, February 2nd: Portfolio: round—up all work! Brutality ensues as we look at all your work as a group and make cuts.
- Calendar: Calendar plan due (coming off meeting and project proposal in first week)
- Paper: Turn in outline (detailed outline- address items raised in Prompts handout)/hard copy in faculty mailbox, Art Office, or in class.
GAG reading
-
"Illustrator Professional Relationships," pgs. 2-5.
-
"Sources of Illustration and Design Talent" through "Code of Fair Practice," pgs. 14-17
-
"Work For Hire," pgs. 31-32
-
Example Forms for Illustrators, pgs. 303-309
Take notes as you read- we need to have a dialogue about this and you need to be informed.
Week 3, February 9th: Presentations: project proposal with revisions (incorporating feedback from initial proposal, outline, and calendar). Receive feedback in class on project revisions. Individual instructions regarding next steps. We will also continue to review the reading from Week 2 if need be.
Week 4, February 16th: FINALLY, we will review your exciting reading (GAG Handbook, remember?). We'll do that first, so refresh yourself on those passages. Then you'll work individually and we'll discuss your calendars, etc. individually as well so we can see where you are. The presentations last week were a good way to get your projects somewhat organized early on. Good work. You'll be glad later!!

Lastly
Dear Seniors,
As you are well aware, tomorrow is our final. Please put your portfolios in room #108 just before 3:30 (then get out) then come back at 5:30 to pick them up. Remember to include in the portfolio a copy of your resume, a cover letter, and a "keeper" or "leave-behind." Also, DO NOT FORGET to put your name and contact info on any loose items and to tag your portfolio case.
Upon completion of this final I'd like to invite all of you to the bar at the Nathan Hale Inn (whatever the name is now) for a celebratory adult beverage, or something non-alcoholic if you prefer, to toast your accomplishments. And to give thanks that the semester is (mostly) over.
See You Tomorrow,
Prof. d
